The final project focuses on how your views on what is deemed “appropriate” may have been impacted by the readings and discussions throughout the course. You do not need to claim that your mind has totally changed, but you should show a careful and meaningful examination of the course materials. To do this, you must first discuss how our era’s views on morality and children impact your view on what is appropriate. Then, you should explore the primary readings from this course but also use the discussion forums to recognize how your views on what is appropriate are not “natural,” but rather formed by our culture and historical era. Instructions Write an introduction describing your current views on morality. Upon preliminary research, provide a brief analysis that discusses how other eras would view the determination of what is appropriate and summarize how other cultures might view what is appropriate for children. (You will need to support your claims and observations with direct quotes from both the readings and from outside sources.) Create an outline indicating the observations and claims you want to support when writing this paper. You must provide at least five outside sources to use as evidence. Be sure to include specific points that have surprised you with the readings thus far. This outline will serve as a clear plan, identifying the topics you will cover in the final project. Consider developing a strong argument in reference to crucial elements such as symbolism, morality, violence, fate, and justice found in children’s literature.
