The Advocacy Section
This week, students will apply the MSJCC Advocacy Competencies to prevention programming in local communities.
The discussion assignment should address all of the following components.
Identify barriers to addressing the target problem at the institutional, community, and public policy level. More simply, what stops your social problem from being addressed at each of the three levels?
Identify one advocacy action to address the target problem at each level (institutional, community, and public policy). This will be three advocacy actions in total – one for each level.
Explain why each advocacy action might be effective for your concern, population, and community.
Be sure to support your work with relevant literature AND the weekly resources.
Remember, per the rubric, discussion posts demonstrate that students can apply, reflect, and synthesize concepts. It is also important that students integrate many of the general principles, ideas, and skills presented in the weekly resources. Moreover, the discussion should demonstrate insight related to changes in student awareness, understanding, and knowledge.
