In this module’s discussion forum, we will examine and apply the ideas of relativism, objectivism, and emotivism, as discussed by Vaughn in chapter two of our textbook. Below are two threads, each with an ethical dilemma. After reading chapter two, choose one of the threads to respond to.
PART 1 – Applying Morals
1. Choose a dilemma below. Open the thread and reply. Formulate your viewpoint and response. Use the terms from the reading to discuss your viewpoint. Answer all questions within the dilemma that you have chosen to respond to.
Aims:
You must do the following in your discussion post.
Use the textbook and ideas within it to support your writing. For example, Vaughn discusses the lenses of relativism vs. objectivism. Is your ethical viewpoint applying one of these lenses?
Include and underline two keywords from the textbook (Vaughn 43)
Word count is 500 words minimum.
Apply MLA format for citations. Include at least one direct quote from the textbook in your writing.Include a Works Cited section at the end of your post. If you use additional sources, please include them.
PART 2 – Discourse
Now that you have written your post and answer the questions above, please take some time to read about your classmate’s morals. Reply to a classmate and discuss ideas further. Maybe you share the same moral belief or had a similar experience in applying your beliefs. Maybe your moral belief differs. Discuss (respectfully) where the difference arises. Is it rooted in culture or society?
Please be sensitive and thoughtful in your responses. The aim is to generate discourse, ask questions, and broaden our views on these topics; help each other unpack the ideas in order to better examine them in relations to the concept of ethics and moral philosophy we are studying.
Aims:
Apply MLA format for citations.
Compare and contrast using your own ideas and those from the textbook.
Your posts will be evaluated and grades issued based upon the grading rubric (attached to the grade book). Please reach out with questions.
