Case – Open AI
Case Study Instructions
Introduction
In this assignment, you will read a case study about OpenAI and answer the associated questions. This exercise will help you explore various leadership and ethical challenges in the development and governance of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). You are encouraged to use AI tools to assist you in brainstorming, organizing, and editing your responses. However, the original content should be your own work. If you use AI, you must cite it properly according to the AI Use Policy in the Generative AI section of the Getting Started module. Refer to the AI Use Policy for detailed instructions on how to use and cite AI tools.
Instructions
Read the OpenAI case study provided.
Answer the following questions:
OpenAI Case: Ethical Implications and Governance in AI Development
Question 1: Ethical Framework
As a leader at OpenAI, you are tasked with developing an ethical framework for the development of AGI (Artificial General Intelligence). Using details from the case and principles from Craig Johnson’s Meeting the Ethical Challenges of Leadership, outline three key ethical principles that should guide the development of AGI. Discuss one potential ethical dilemma you might face and how you would address it to ensure that the development benefits all of humanity.
Focus Areas: Ethical principles, AGI development, addressing dilemmas.
Question 2: Bias Mitigation
Review the methods used by OpenAI to mitigate bias in their models. Using relevant material from Johnson’s text, propose two additional strategies to ensure fairness in AI systems.
Focus Areas: Bias mitigation, fairness.
Question 3: Transparency and Accountability
Analyze the governance mechanisms discussed in the case. As a leader, propose two methods to enhance transparency and accountability in OpenAI’s operations, incorporating concepts from Kouzes and Posner’s The Leadership Challenge. Explain how these methods can help maintain stakeholder trust and support.
Focus Areas: Governance mechanisms, transparency, accountability, stakeholder trust.
Question 4: Balancing Innovation with Ethical Responsibilities
