Central to our American political culture is the belief that the design of American government should eliminate the threat of tyranny. The Framers of the Constitution designed a system of checks and balances as well as a federal system to try to avoid the threat of abusive government. If you were grading America with regards to how successfully we have been at avoiding tyranny what grade would you give us? Why?
