Keeping a consistent point of view in writing is important because it helps keep things clear, organized, and makes it easier for the audience to connect with what’s being said. When the point of view stays steady, readers can follow along without getting confused. On the other hand, switching perspectives can distract readers and weaken the message. Choosing the right point of view helps writers match their tone to what they’re trying to achieve—whether it’s sharing a personal story (first person), giving an objective analysis (third person), or speaking directly to the reader (second person) (St. Louis Community College, 2024; Writing Commons, 2024). In all cases, staying consistent with whichever point of view is chosen helps build trust and credibility with the reader. It shows that the writer has control over the narrative and knows how to communicate effectively.
