The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regularly publishes the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS), which surveys various risk behaviors, such as sexual behaviors, alcohol and drug use, tobacco use, dietary behaviors, physical inactivity, etc. The YRBS is conducted every two years with students in grades nine through 12 at high schools across the country. It provides the most current information about adolescent behaviors across various demographic categories and in different states. The YRBS study’s website offers detailed history of the study, methods, overall results and links to data files, results and additional information. For Part I of your Final Project, I want you to review the above links – explore the website and get a sense of what the YRBSS study is all about, skim the report to get an idea of what questions are asked, what variables are measured and what trends are observed overtime as well as across the states. Please write up a concise summary of what the YRBS study is (the summary will become an introduction to your final project write up). This summary need not be longer than 1 page, but you do need to cover the main features of the study and you must do it in your own words – no cutting and pasting.
