Good designers copy, great designers steal – Pablo Picasso
Week 02 task
We all have influences and sources of inspiration. What creative has influenced you and who do you think has missed the mark?…
In this task you will demonstrate:
Research
Understanding
Simplification
Visual representation
Iteration after feedback
The brief
Now we have all made our own definition of “design” and “brand” you will explore a world of famous (and some not so famous) names who best exemplify the characteristics of our creative definitions.
I want you all to demonstrate critical thinking and find one example of a designer and organisation or product (from any discipline) that you admire
Tell us about them and their approach or history in a short visual way
Discuss a product of their thinking and creativity that excites and inspires you.
As a guide this is a 50-300 word task with lots of associated design and associated images.
And, yes good, designed presentation gets more points!
Discuss and visually tell the story…
Why is this individual and brand your design hero?
What did they achieve with the work, ie what was the outcome?
What design (a product, piece of graphic design, building, brand etc) did they produce that demonstrates an inquisitive nature to tackle interesting human challenges?
Then tell us about an organisation (and the designer/agency) IN THE SAME FIELD or SECTOR as your hero who missed the opportunities of brand design and strategy
Why didnt their approach work?
What elements in particular make their approach dull, ineffective or unsuitable?
Why is your design heroes approach more successful
Unsurprisingly I am looking for a creatively presented response>
Default word, PPT or canva templates will not do and Times new roman will not cut it!…
Be curious, look at new fonts, try new techniques, combine hand-drawn with digital
